AP3581CMP-G4 is an integrated dc-dc converter which eliminates the need for complex external components. It is specifically designed for single-cell Li-ion battery applications. It is a high-current, high-efficiency, step-up module with synchronized switching at a frequency of up to 2MHz. This device integrates a synchronous gate driver, two low-side MOSFETs, two high side MOSFETs, a voltage reference, an oscillator, and control circuit.

The AP3581CMP-G4 includes an integrated PFM/PWM controller with low dropout voltage and temperature monitoring function. This device can achieve high- efficiency conversion with low power consumption in both PFM and PWM mode. It supports adjustable output current limit, adjustable output voltage and adjustable switching frequency. Additionally, it has an internal soft-start function to reduce inrush current on output. Additionally, its low standby current ensures that it can be used in battery powered applications.

AP3581CMP-G4 can operate in PFM mode and PWM mode. In PFM mode, it has discontinuous conduction mode and constant frequency pulse width modulation (CF-PWM). In PWM mode, it provides current mode and voltage mode control. In voltage mode, it has a programmable voltage tolerance feature, allowing the output voltage to be accurately set. This feature is key in applications where precision voltage is essential.

The AP3581CMP-G4 is suitable for use in dc-dc converters and power supplies, stand-by current save power applications, automotive power systems, battery chargers, SMPS, portable electronic products, and other applications requiring high efficiency and precision voltage control.

In terms of working principle, the AP3581CMP-G4 utilizes a comparison between the input voltage and a predetermined reference voltage as the feedback signal to detect the output switching points, then drives the external MOSFET to operate. This device mainly contains three main parts: 1) power MOSFET part, 2) logic circuits, 3) oscillator and startup control part. The logic circuits generate PWM signals based on the voltage comparison, and drive MOSFETs to work accordingly according to the PWM signals. When the voltage comparison produces a difference, the high side MOSFET will switch, and when the output voltage reaches the reference voltage, the low side MOSFET will switch. This continuous switching cyclically produces the output voltage, thus regulating the output voltage. The oscillator produces a triangle wave and this triangle wave will be compared the feedback voltage. Through the comparison between the triangle wave and the voltage reference, one can determine the ON/OFF state of MOSFETs. In short, the AP3581CMP-G4 controls the charge and discharge of the inductor, enabling the output voltage to be precise and within a certain tolerance range.
