The AP3585MTR-G1 is a high-performance, low voltage, high current DC/DC switching controllers, designed for applications that require high power efficiency, size, and low cost. This switching regulator can deliver up to 2A of output current with no heat sink, making it an ideal solution for point of load (POL) and motherboard applications. It is capable of operating in a wide and adjustable input voltage range, with output voltage adjustable over 0.7V to 7.0V.

The AP3585MTR-G1 is designed with a built-in 100mV voltage feedback loop to enable more precise regulation of the output voltage. It also features a low-ripple current mode PWM implementation, which enables improved system efficiency and better thermal stability.

A key feature of the AP3585 is its low amplitude profile, allowing it to be used in critical start-up and light load applications. This is achieved by a high current peak-to-peak ratio, which increases power efficiency and reduces heat generation. It also has an adjustable loop frequency (100kHz to 600kHz) and accommodates external digital adjustments to optimize design requirements.

Working Principle

The AP3585MTR-G1 is a synchronous DC/DC switching regulator that works on the switching control principle. In this type of operation, power is supplied to the output of the regulator through a DC-DC converter, allowing it to maintain precise regulation of the output voltage. The operation of the regulator consists of two stages: the power conversion stage and the voltage regulation stage.

Firstly, an input voltage is applied to the DC-DC converter where it is converted into a high frequency, pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal. This PWM signal is then sent through an integrated power MOSFET driver that increases the voltage of the PWM signal to the supply voltage. The integration of a power MOSFET driver allows the AP3585MTR-G1 to efficiently deliver up to 2A of output current without the need for a heatsink.

In the second stage, the output of the PWM converter is fed into a feedback loop that compares the selected output voltage with the actual output voltage and outputs the error signal to drive the converter. This feedback loop maintains the output voltage in the specified range and enables precise voltage regulation.
