The AP3585AMPTR-G1 voltage regulators is a low quiescent current DC (direct current) DC (direct current) switching controllers. It is used to regulate the voltages in the electrical system of a device, by controlling the behavior of an output switch. It offers excellent load and line regulation performance and high surge current performance capability at low voltage output. The AP3585AMPTR-G1 is suitable for use in consumer applications such as power supply, mobile phone, television and laptop.
The AP3585AMPTR-G1 voltage regulator has an operating voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5V and features soft start current limiting and over temperature shutdown. The internal compensation block, adjustable high current DC output switch, enable enable enable enable and disable switching signals, provides accurate, fast and easy control of the output voltage. The AP3585AMPTR-G1 also features a low reference voltage of 0.84V for 1.8V operation and supports a wide range of output current from a few mA up to 6A. It supports 1, 2 and 3 phases configurations.
The output of the AP3585AMPTR-G1 is controlled by a logic section which enables and disables the output switch. Additionally, the regulator can be restricted by voltage feedback loop. The internal logic block receives an input voltage and compares it with a voltage reference. An enable signal and logic signal are used to control the output switch. The enable and disable signal offers variable output voltage using a bidirectional PWM (pulse width modulation), which can adjust the conduction time of the output switch with a resolution as fine as 0.01%.
The AP3585AMPTR-G1 voltage regulator offers three different switching frequency (f SW ) ranges – low, mid and high. The low f SW range is from 1KHz to 10KHz, the mid from 10KHz to 100KHz and the high from 100KHz to 300KHz. The maximum PWM duty cycle is 90%. The AP3585AMPTR-G1 also has a wide adjustment range in terms of output voltage, from 0.45V to 5.5V and features both adjustable over-current protection and thermal protection.
In order to simplify the implementation of the AP3585AMPTR-G1 voltage regulator in most applications, the device offers a set of external pins as well as an internal current sensing block. The external enabling/disabling input, adjustable over-current protection and PWM duty cycle can be used to improve system efficiency, reduce component count and achieve low output voltage ripple. The current sensing block is used to limit the maximum load current during an over current condition and provides an accurate current feedback. The current sensing block senses the load current and adjusts the duty cycle of the output switch accordingly.
