Optoisolators - Triac, SCR Output are commonly used electronic components used to provide isolation between two electrical systems. The APT1222A is a solid-state triac output optocoupler which provides a high degree of electrical isolation between the input and the output stages. It is suitable for AC or DC input control signals, and features a wide range of operating temperature and very fast switching speeds. It is also suitable for a variety of applications from motor control to lighting control, from industrial equipment to medical devices.
The APT1222A is an optically coupled triac optocoupler, composed of an LED and a solid-state triac output device in the same 4 Pin Mini DIP package. The LED emits light when energized by the input controller, and this light is optically coupled to the triac. The output control of the triac is dependent on the amount of light triggered from the LED. When the light reaches a certain level, the triac switches on and the LED extinguishes. As the LED is in the same package as the triac, the amount of heat generated is minimized while providing a variety of electrical ratings. To minimize the response time, the turn-on delay time of the LED is designed to be one of the fastest in the industry.
The APT1222A has a wide range of operating temperature, from -40 deg C to +125 deg C, and a very wide range of input current, from 1mA to 900mA. It also has a wide range of load voltage, from 5V to 800V with the maximum load current up to 2.5A. The isolation voltage between the input and output is rated at 5300Vrms in accordance with IEC 60747-5-2, making it suitable for high voltage applications. The device can be configured with a snubber network or a surge suppressor to minimize electrical noise and minimize device breakdown due to stress.
The APT1222A is also capable of delivering very fast switching times, with a turn-on time of 0.5uS and a turn-off time of 0.7uS. The device can also be used in power factor correction applications with typical power factor values of up to 99%. The triac gate is also qualified for UL, CSA, and EN/IEC approved standards.
