BC846A is a small signal PNP transistor, which belongs to a series of single bipolar junction transistors (BJT). It is manufactured by various semiconductor companies including Infineon, NXP, On Semiconductor and so on.

BC846A is a PNP transistor with double collector and double emitter terminals. It has a DC current gain of 55-110, and a DC collector-base voltage of 40-60V, which make it suitable for general-purpose low power amplifier applications.

In RFG (Radio-Frequency Generator) application, BC846A operates as the frequency generator, generating a stable frequency according to a certain input signal. A basic block diagram of an RFG application using BC846A is shown in Figure 1.

In this circuit, the transistor forms a basic oscillator circuit when the oscillator components (L1, C1, C2 and C3) are properly adjusted. As the input signal is applied, the transistor operates as an amplifier in relation to the oscillator components and the signal frequency is adjusted. This can be done by changing the values of different components such as L1, C2, C3 and C1 as necessary to achieve the desired output frequency. In addition, it is also possible to change the bias of the transistor with the help of a preset resistor R1.

Apart from RFG application, BC846A can also be used for other applications including switching and amplification. In switching applications, BC846A can be used to control the current flow between load and its collector terminal depending on the input signal. It can also be used in amplification applications to provide gain for a certain input signal.

In general, BC846A is primarily used for low power RFG application, but also can be used for other general purpose applications due to its DC current gain range and DC collector-base voltage range. Furthermore, it is a highly reliable transistor with an endurance of around 5 million cycles.
