BC856SF Application Field and Working Principle
The BC856SF is a NPN epitaxial silicon transistor with an array configuration and an integrated circuit (IC). It is designed for switching and linear applications with extremely low power consumption and very high gain. The BC856SF is normally used in consumer electronics, instrumentation, industrial, automotive and military applications.
The BC856SF is a two element array which consists of two independent NPN transistors connected in integrated circuit form. Each transistor has a collector connected to an external emitter lead on the IC module. The base leads are connected internally between the two collectors and so each transistor acting together with the other helps to increase gain. The BC856SF has three pins for external connections: Emitter, Collector and Base.
The working principle of the BC856SF is based on the typical characteristics of a bipolar transistor. It is made up of two transistors connected in an array. These two transistors can be turned on and off, depending on the voltage applied to their base terminals. When a voltage greater than the base-emitter junction\'s threshold voltage is applied to the base lead, the emitter-base junction of both transistors become forward-biased, thus allowing electrons to easily flow from the emitter to the base. This causing a current flow from the collector to the emitter of the transistor and generates a voltage across the collector and emitter terminals.
The BC856SF is capable of operating at very low currents and can switch off in less than a microsecond. Its very high gain is achieved by the use of integrated circuit technology which allows the transistors to be incorporated into a single package. This high gain also allows for very sensitive signal detection, making it suitable for use in very high accuracy applications. The BC856SF can be used in power supplies, audio amplifiers, motor speed control circuits and signal conditioning.
