Working Principle

The BCW61DTA operates by employing the principles of bipolar junction transistors (BJT’s), which use two different semiconductors (n-type and p-type) along with a base connection to control current flow between two other connections, the emitter and collector.The BCW61DTA controls current flow by using a small current at the base connection to switch on a larger current between the emitter and collector. When the base current is used to switch off the larger current between the emitter and collector, this is referred to as “saturation”. The BCW61DTA also uses two transistors, the n-type transistor (illustrated as the blue transistor in the schematic below) and the p-type transistor (illustrated as the yellow transistor in the schematic below). The base of the n-type transistor is connected to the base of the p-type transistor, and the emitters of both transistors are connected together. When a small current is applied to the base of the p-type transistor, it in turn switches on the n-type transistor, which allows a larger current to flow between the emitter and collector of both transistors.
