RF Amplifiers The HMC7543 is a fully integrated ultra-low noise GaAs MMIC amplifier designed for use in a variety of RF applications including point-to-point radio systems, base station amplifiers, medical imaging systems, security systems, military radios, and wireless universal data network links. The amplifier operates over a wide frequency range of DC to 8GHz, providing 22dB of gain and a noise figure of 3.0dB. The amplifier is rugged, offers excellent linearity and wide dynamic range, and is easy to use.The HMC7543 is based on a composite monolithic integrated circuit (CMIC) which combines a preamplifier/linearizer section with a power amplifier section in one package. The preamplifier/linearizer is an eight-stage, fully differential amplifier which employs several unique features such as a combination of bias control and current cycling. This allows the input return loss to be maximized and provides excellent linearity and gain flatness.The power amplifier section is an eight-stage, single-ended power amplifier which provides more than 10W of output power. This contains many of the features found in the preamplifier/linearizer section, such as bias control and current cycling.The HMC7543 also provides many features that make it ideal for a variety of RF applications. It has an integrated temperature sensor which continuously monitors die temperature and adjusts the bias accordingly. This allows the amplifier to maintain its maximum performance even in the most extreme environments. The amplifier also features integrated reverse isolation protection which guards against voltage spikes caused by adjacent RF signals. The HMC7543 also has integrated EMI filtering for noise suppression and can be configured to provide adjustable linearity and gain control.In addition to these features, the HMC7543 also offers excellent linearity and wide dynamic range. The amplifier is rated for more than 70dB of gain control with only 0.5dB of gain variation. It also has excellent noise performance, providing a noise figure of 3.0dB. This allows the amplifier to be used in sensitive applications such as receivers and medical imaging.
