TVS - Diodes ICTE10C-E3/73 Application Field and Working Principle

The ICTE10C-E3/73 (also known as the ICTE10 Connector) is an integrated circuit surface mount technology (SMT) TVS - diode device designed to complement the ICTE10 family of connectors. Providing protection against noise or transients due to electrostatic discharge (ESD), the unit incorporates an ESD-guard, a diode varistor, and a fast-acting clamping circuit that provides excellent protection from transient over-voltages.

Application Field

The ICTE10C-E3/73 application field covers the automotive, industrial, consumer, military and medical end markets. In automotive use, the device is typically deployed in signal and power lines to guard against voltage oscillations, transient overvoltages, high voltages, and transient impulses. The device is also used to provide electrostatic discharge protection in sensitive operations -- such as in medical beds, testing equipment, military and aerospace applications. Working Principle

The ICTE10C-E3/73 is a TVS - diode that offers an ESD-guard, a diode varistor, and a fast-acting clamping circuit. During normal operation, the ESD-guard circulates a reverse current, providing static protection from voltage transients or static electricity. The diode varistor is activated when a rapid voltage transient or electrostatic discharge occurs, clamping the voltage at a designated level. The clamping action helps protect the circuit from overvoltage that could potentially destroy the device. In the event of a transient, the fast-acting clamping contained in the ICTE10C-E3/73 absorbs energy from the transient and dissipates the energy into the ground connection, thus providing a protected path for the current to flow. The ICTE10C-E3/73 also contains a ‘latch-up’ feature enabling power protection to continue even after the ESD event is over. This feature prevents surge current which may damage the components of the device. The ‘latch-up’ feature also allows the device to reset after a period of time, thus offering a enduring solution for component protection.
