Working Principle
The basic principle of TVS diodes is the movement of charge carriers. When an over-voltage state (a voltage transient) is encountered, the intrinsic charge carriers are accelerated and move through the device. The charge carriers, accelerated due to the high potential, are then collected by the anode or the cathode. As a result, a large amount of current is generated and this is what is known as clamping effect.The ICTE12C-E3/54 operates as a bidirectional device and is able to provide protection against ESD transients. The normal bi-directional clamping voltage, specified by its minimum break down voltage (VBRm), is usually only 10% higher than the rated maximum clamping voltage. The device has a soft-recovery feature that helps reduce the device power dissipation, and thus, limits the potential for thermal runaway conditions. The ICTE12C-E3/54 has a very low reverse current leakage (<50µA) that is independent of its operating temperature.Conclusion
