ICTE18-E3/54 Application Field and Working Principle
The ICTE18-E3/54 TVS Diode is a transil diode designed to protect electronic circuits from electrostatic discharges, transients and excessive voltage. It is capable of providing a low-clamping voltage level and sufficient peak pulse power, making it ideal for use in a wide variety of devices and systems. At the heart of the ICTE18-E3/54 is a semiconductor junction based structure, which allows it to function as a high-precision electro-optical part consisting of two metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS) capacitors and one zinc oxide (ZnO) diode. The MOS capacitors form the basis of the diode, and the zinc diode completes the structure to provide a superior ESD protection. In a typical application, the ICTE18-E3/54 can provide excellent ESD protection up to 18kV contact and 30kV air discharge. It also features advanced clamp-voltage protection of 8V, well suited for applications that demand accurate, low-clamping voltage protection. The ICTE18-E3/54 is capable of handling a wide range of applications, from automotive, medical and communications. Its advanced ESD clamp protection is suited for use in consumer electronics, electric vehicles, home automation, wearable tech and other similar electronics that are highly susceptible to accidental damage from electrostatic discharges. Furthermore, it is also a very cost-effective solution for protecting electronic equipment located in sensitive environments. In terms of working principle, the ICTE18-E3/54 offers two different modes of ESD protection. The first is the high voltage breakdown mode which is triggered when an electrostatic discharge is received, causing current to flow between the two terminals of the diode, and providing an ESD path. The second is the low voltage trigger mode, which is activated when the applied voltage is less than 8V. When this occurs, current is allowed to flow through the diode, which helps limit the excessive voltage to a safe level. Both of these modes help provide effective ESD protection, allowing the ICTE18-E3/54 to function as an effective protector for sensitive electronic devices and circuits.
