Working Principle

The working principle of IR2112STRPBF Gate Driver consists of two sections, supply and logic. The supply section consists of two primary components i.e. the DCDC Buck converter, which provides the necessary gate settings, and the dead time control circuit, which provides the requested dead time. During the on state, source of the half-bridge is charged while the gate voltage is higher than the source voltage, thus powering up the MOSFET. During the off state, in order to disconnect the MOSFET, the gate voltage is lowered below the source voltage. The logic section of the IR2112STRPBF Gate Driver consists of selectable under-voltage lockout for each channel, a latch for each channel, a trigger for the dead time control, and a chip-select (/CS) input.

The dead time control circuit is one of the most important features of the Gate Driver as its primary function is to provide a controllable time delay between the switch-off and the switch-on of the MOSFETs. The dead time is based on the pwm carrier frequency, although the selection of the dead time period is dependent on the application at hand. IR2112STRPBF Gate Drivers make use of a selectable Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO) circuit, which ensures that the device is kept in shutdown mode unless the voltage of the switch is above the UVLO threshold to ensure that the CPU is not affected by the sudden fluctuation of the power.

Finally, the chip-select (/CS) input allows the user to control the operation of the driver. When it is high, the Gate Driver is in normal operating mode, when chip-select is low the Gate Driver is in lockout mode and all operations are inhibited.
