IR2182 is an integrated circuit driver, also known as a Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) – Gate Driver.Generic speaking, gate drivers are employed to control high powered switches, where they provide isolation between the gate driver and the gate of the controlled switch. This PMIC–Gate Driver in particular is employed in the management of gate drive voltage of high power switches, such as the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), which is used in the high voltage applications. In terms of operation, the IR2182 is manufactured to create oscillatory signals based on frequency and duty cycle which will accordingly drive the controlled switch. It is designed as two half-bridge driver to control both sides of the switch, thus creating a symmetrical oscillating output. In addition, the device is also suitable for adjusting the amplitude and peak current via its trim pin.This PMIC – Gate Driver also offers a number of advantages when inserted into modern circuit designs. For example, they reduce complexity as they remove the need of discrete components.
