LIS2L06ALTR is a motion sensing device that functions as an accelerometer. It is widely used for advanced motion detections and measurements in consumer device such as android phones, wearable bands and devices, smart fitness devices, gaming controllers and wireless position sensors, etc.
The LIS2L06ALTR has a sensing range of ±2g with a resolution of 0.0625 mg. This product is available in a 4x4x1.2mm package that is capable of making measurements along the x, y and z axes. The accelerometer also features full scale range selection as well as programmable digital filtering.
The basic working principle of the LIS2L06ALTR accelerometer is based on the MEMS technology. The sensing element of this accelerometer consists of a four-layer sandwich consisting of a fixed-fixed silicon structure carrying a mass. This mass is mounted on the top and bottom side of the MEMS structure and is connected to a proof mass.
When this proof mass is subjected to an acceleration, the inertia stored within the MEMS structure will cause the mass to move. This motion will cause the proof mass to deform which changes the capacitance of the sensor structure. The MEMS also has an internal temperature sensor as well as a circuit for amplification and an analog to digital converter (ADC).
The data outputted by the LIS2L06ALTR accelerometer can be used for a range of applications, including gaming control, vehicle navigation, data backup and several others. The accelerometer can also be used for human machine interface applications where it can detect motion and use the data collected for motion tracking, motion gaming and measures of force. This device can also be used in smart fitness devices to measure activities such as walking, running and jumping.
