The LNK305P is a type of offline switcher, although commonly classed as a type of power management integrated circuit (PMIC). The LNK305P is primarily used in computing, networking, and other industrial and consumer electronics applications, including but not limited to: AC/DC converters, switching power supplies, off-line converters, rectifiers, and linear regulators. When used in its linear regulator configuration, the device provides excellent line and load regulation with a maximum load current of up to 0.23A (2.3W). It also supports a wide input voltage range of 85VAC – 265VAC.The working principle of the LNK305P is based primarily on the use of a pulse-width modulation (PWM) technique for the production of regulated output power. The input power is first DC rectified and then the oscillator produces PWM pulses whose duty cycle is modulated based on external resistive and/or capacitor feedback. The duty cycle is modulated such that when the line and load parameters change, the duty cycle gets adjusted accordingly to keep the output power regulated. The device also includes an integrated error amplifier, enabling it to accurately control the output of the device to a specific set point. This feedback control loop is what allows the device to maintain a high power factor and low harmonic distortion.In addition, the LNK305P also includes various protection features, including over-voltage, over-current, and short-circuit protection.
