The LNK363DG-TL operates on the isolated flyback topology utilising a MOSFET switch for the power conversion. When the high-side MOSFET is switched on, the current will flow through the MOSFET and the high-frequency transformer, inducing a voltage across the transformer secondary winding. The voltage then feeds the output capacitor and filter to provide an output voltage. When the MOSFET switch is turned off, energy stored in the high-frequency transformer flies back to the MOSFET, producing a negative current. The input side also contains a MOSFET switch and a diode, which serve to isolate the input form the output.
The operation of the LNK363DG-TL can be summarised into four simple steps. First, a regulated voltage is created across the transformer primary winding. This regulated voltage is then sensed by the control circuitry and used to regulate the primary and secondary openings of the MOSFET switch. When the MOSFET switch is opened and closed in this way, it creates a boost-buck power transfer, which results in a regulated DC output voltage. Finally, the voltage is smoothed and filtered, producing a clean, regulated output.
