The LNK362PG is part of a family of low-cost, programmable, and high-efficiency offline switching regulators, specifically designed for flyback converters. The device includes a PWM controller, an integrated power switch, and a high-voltage shunt regulator, combined with many features like soft-start, overload protection, dynamic overload detection, and the ability to save and restore operating parameters. The basic function of this device is to create a regulated DC output voltage from an unregulated AC input voltage, including supplying multiple output voltages. In some cases, the AC input is directly rectified and filtered, and other cases require additional DC filtering prior to the input of the LNK362PG. All the components of this device are designed to operate from an AC line voltage that ranges from 90V to 265V. This device is equipped with advanced protection circuits to protect against overload, short circuit and transient events.
The LNK362PG works according to the flyback topology. It operates in quasi-resonant mode and switches the power MOSFET on-off depending on the programmed pulse-width modulation duty cycle. At the start of each cycle, the MOSFET is fired, and a current starts flowing through the transformer. The primary current swings up and down until the transistor is turned off. The voltage developed across the transformer is then rectified and filtered into the output voltage. The device also provides an adjustable frequency control, allowing the user to change the switching frequency up to 200kHz in order to optimize the efficiencies of the system.
The LNK362PG includes many features to ensure system reliability, including an adjustable soft-start, dynamic overload protection, current limit and overvoltage protection, power sharing, and power good warning. The device also offers thermal shutdown protection and has a thermal shutdown temperature range from 95°C to 160°C depending on the package type. Additionally, the device is also designed for a wide input range between 4.5V and 26V and is capable of setting a maximum output voltage up to 19V.
