The LNK3204D-TL is designed for applications requiring high-efficiency and low-cost off-line AC-DC conversion. Working Principle
The LNK3204D-TL uses a combination of a low voltage converter and a high-current switch-mode power-supply (SMPS) controller to convert AC to DC. The low voltage converter, also called a buck converter, first reduces the AC line voltage, typically from 95V to 264V, to a 13.5V-16V range. The output of the buck converter is connected directly to the SMPS controller. The SMPS controller is a current-mode boost converter, which steps up the voltage and supplies an adjustable output voltage up to an internally fixed maximum level typically of 56V. The output of the boost converter is connected to the output of the SMPS controller. The LNK3204D-TL also implements a power-factor correction (PFC) circuit to achieve power factor greater than 0.9. A typical PFC circuit consists of an input line capacitor, a diode and two switches. The two switches form a bridge-type full-wave rectifier circuit. The bridge rectifies the AC line and charges the input capacitor to the peak voltage at each half-cycle. The output of the bridge rectifier is then fed to the PFC controller. The PFC controller then regulates the current through the switches and ensures the power consumed from the AC line matches the power supplied to the load.Finally, the LNK3204D-TL also implements a line protection and control system for overvoltage and undervoltage. The line protection system monitors the voltage at the input of the PFC circuit and will disable the power supply if the input voltage drops below an internally set minimum or rises above an internally set maximum level. The LNK3204D-TL operates at 95V to 264V AC input range. The LNK3204D-TL is a highly efficient solution for powering off-line systems. It combines a low voltage converter, a power-factor correction circuit, and a high-current switch-mode power-supply (SMPS) controller into a single integrated circuit, allowing for a cost-effective and easy implementation of an off-line AC-DC converter.
