The LNK304DG is a highly integrated, off-line switcher IC that has a wide range of applications in power management systems. This device builds off of its predecessor, the LNK304DG, while introducing a number of improvements. It is an ideal choice for primary side regulation (PSR) of isolated switching power supplies and applications utilizing an off-line transformer. LNK304DG is a Primary Side Power management IC (PMIC). It provides AC/DC offline power converters, offline switcher solutions, and DC/DC converters. The device includes a wide range of features to reduce external components, size, and cost. This includes integrated EMI filter, over voltage, under voltage protection, under current protection, short circuit, thermal/overload protection, soft start, as well as other features. The main feature of LNK304DG is that it uses primary side regulation to sense output voltage for the off-line switcher. The primary side regulation (PSR) helps to eliminate the need for a power feedback winding from the secondary side. This will reduce the cost, size and time to market by eliminating an extra winding, as well as opto-coupler from the design. The features have also been enhanced with an internal oscillator as well as programmable on time. The safety features have been improved as well, with enhanced reset timers for over voltage, under voltage, and short circuit protection, as well as a soft start function with adjustable ramp rate. Additionally, the new IC has a start up voltage with a maximum of 14.5V. This simplifies the start up conditions and helps to enhance efficiency and reliability.
