LNK304GN is an integrated offline switcher IC solution designed for Off-Line and DC to DC applications. The LNK304GN series provides probably the smallest and lowest cost solution available for non-isolated flyback designs and is suitable for low power applications such as AC adapters and chargers, LED drivers, motor drivers, and other switching power supplies.

The LNK304GN is designed with all the necessary features necessary to develop an Off-Line, Flyback or Arma-Sepic switch-mode power supply. It integrates the low and high side MOSFET, power PWM controller, startup current limiter, overload protection, and LED drivers. The LED driver features adjustable LED current. The overload protection features auto-recovery. High voltage startup is supported with a built-in 5V charging pump.

Working Principle of LNK304GN

The LNK304GN operates in two modes. The first mode is startup mode, typically known as the burst mode. In the startup mode, the internal startup current limiter can provide limited current to the secondary winding when the voltage builds up to the established insulation level. After that, the IC automatically switches to pulse width modulation (PWM) mode. In the PWM mode, the internal PWM controller will adjust the output voltage feedback and turn on and off the switching MOSFETs periodically to achieve the optimal efficiency ratings.

In order to achieve maximum protection, the LNK304GN is also equipped with overload protection. When the load current increases to a level higher than normal, the overload protection quickly switches the output off. After the current reduced to a normal level, the output is recovered and the system can complete the normal operation sequence.
