MAP4KE120CAE3 utilizes surge current protection technology which involves the use of two separate layers of diode protection. The first layer, called the Cathode Gate Diode (CGS), limits the current that flows into the diode and the second layer, called the Protecting Anode Diode (PAD), limits the current that flows out of the diode. The CGS and PAD are triggered by a voltage spike, resulting in a shut-down or “clamping” of the voltage. This technology is highly efficient in protecting high speed data communication lines and Ethernet physical layers, due to its low capacitance and low leakage current.In order to protect a cable interface from ESD and other transients, the MAP4KE120CAE3 can be placed directly on the cable. The device contains two diodes, one at the input end and one at the output end.
