The MAP6KE13CA is an efficient, robust, and reliable surge protection device developed and manufactured by one of the leading semiconductor manufacturer in the electronics industry. It is designed for applications that require surge protection from both transients caused by electrostatic discharges or electrical over-voltages. The device consists of a N-channel MOSFET structure in a three-terminal configuration, with a breakdown voltage of 13V, a maximum peak pulse current of 300A, and a clamping voltage of 24V.

The MAP6KE13CA is usually categorized as part of the transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diodes family. It has a nonlinear resistance element in between the source and drain terminals of the MOSFET which starts to conduct current when the input voltage exceeds the breakdown voltage level. When the voltage across the device exceeds the maximum clamping voltage level, the avalanche breakdown of the device begins, limiting the voltage across the device to a safe level. It exploits the avalanche breakdown mechanism to limit the current flow any further and absorbs the excess energy thereby providing a reliable act of protection from the transient voltage.

MAP6KE13CA’s use highly reliable and low capacitance features to safeguard electronic components from transient over-voltages in the event of an ESD strikes of up to 40KV. The device can also be used to protect various consumer electronics, such as game consoles, portable media players, and cellular phones, from the electrical overvoltage effects caused by external sources. The MAP6KE13CA device can also be used to protect multimedia interfaces, including HDMI, DVI, and DisplayPort, from the highly destructive HBM ESD pulses of up to 8KV.

The MAP6KE13CA also has wide temperature range from -55C to 150C that make it capable of withstanding extreme climate and high ambient temperature conditions. It also offers excellent surge performance characteristics and low current flow. With a faster response time of 550ps, it can quickly clamp the rising voltage to a safe level thereby protecting connected devices from long-term damaging effects such as circuit damages and device failure.
