During the reverse-bias mode, the voltage across the diode is limited to keep current flow limited; when impulse voltage exceeds the diode’s clamping voltage, the Avalanche breakdown principle takes effect to reduce the highly increased resistance and allows very high leakage current to flow.

The MAP6KE200A has a high surge-handling capability and fast response to repetitive surge events, which makes it ideal for use in industrial, telecommunications, and computer applications.
