The MAP6KE15CA is a 600W bi-directional diode, with an unidirectional breakdown voltage of 15V and a low capacitance of 0.09 pF (maximum). They can work with peak forward surge current of 58A (8×20us) and non-Repetitive peak pulse clamping with a maximum Reverse current of 5mA at a temperature of 25°C. The MAP6KE15CA is backward compatible and can replace the 6KE15CA diode.

The working principle of the MAP6KE15CA is based on long-established zener breakdown voltage mechanism. When a voltage is applied to the diode, the electrons in the heavily doped n-type region are heavily depleted of free electrons. In other words, depletion region increases till a point where the electric field is so strong that the electrons gain enough energy to move freely, results in zener breakdown voltage. After the electrons gain enough energy, voltage clamping occurs to create a temporary low resistance path to limit the large current flow. As the flow of current is snubbed, the voltage across the diode becomes zero.
