The MAX1757EAI+ is a compact, high-efficiency lithium ion/polymer battery charger IC, which is classified as PMIC – Battery chargers. It is compatible with a wide input voltage range from 2.5V to 16V and employs the SEPIC (or single-ended primary inductor converter) topology, making it suitable for a large variety of multi-cell battery stacks up to a maximum of six series cells commonly used in portable applications such as cellular phones and PDAs. It has maximum output current (IOUT) of up to 1.5A and is capable of charging Li-ion/polymer cells with minimum voltage of 3V. Maxim integrated\'s MAX1757EAI+ also features adjustable soft-start, fail-safe timer including preconditioning, and is programmable by simple external resistors.

Working principle for the MAX1757EAI+ battery charger is simple. When an input power source is applied (for instance, a DC wall adapter with an input voltage of 9V), the battery charger will use an internal power converter to convert the voltage from 9V to an appropriate voltage that is suitable for charging Li-ion/polymer batteries.
