MAX1874ETE+ Application Field and Working Principle
MAX1874ETE+ is a high performance, multi-port USB battery charging solution for charging and powering of mobile, IoT and plug-in device applications requiring higher power density and enabled with dedicated charging port (DCP) and Apple/BC1.2 compliant USB charging port. It belongs to a family of Power Management ICs (PMICs) specifically designed for battery charger applications.

Working Principle
The MAX1874ETE+ achieves its high performance by utilizing an efficient MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) architecture to track the maximum power point of the charging current and thus delivering optimal charging performance. This is done by controller running in the background measuring the output current and voltage of the battery charge and adjusting the charging voltage accordingly to maintain maximum efficiency. It similarly holds true for the DC IN port where the device translates the output voltage into a regulated voltage suitable for the load. It also supports fast-charge drain/restore control and NFC technologies that significantly improve its performance and enable faster charging cycles. When a battery is connected, the device can automatically detect its charging method and adjust the parameters accordingly to deliver the highest possible charging efficiency.
