The MAX1908ETI+T offers one of the highest level of flexibility and integration available in a battery charger. It is the first true two-cell Li-Ion charger with integrated buck/boost with an integrated internal 2.2Ω switch, providing an extremely efficient solution for two-cell charging applications.
The MAX1908ETI+T is a single-channel, dual-input step-down, step-up Li-Ion Linear charger. This battery charger offers a wide range of charging capability for applications such as cellular telephones, digital cameras and other handheld portables. It supports dual input sources and accepts both USB 5V and single-cell Li-Ion inputs. The ±3% charging accuracy ensures reliable charging capability while reducing overall battery charge time.
The charger follows a linear charging method which is optimal for high-accuracy charging. It features an adjustable constant-current charge profile and allows the user to define the charge current up to 3A. A thermistor-based thermal protection mechanism is used to protect the battery from overcharging or over-discharging, providing reliable and accurate over-temperature protection.
The MAX1908ETI+T offers an adjustable input power path with a low-power standby path for system optimization and is protected against a variety of factors that can cause damage to the system such as input over-voltage, input under-voltage, output over-current and thermal shutdown.
Integrated power-MOSFETs provide high efficiency forward and reverse modes, allowing the system to operate in buck or boost configuration with an internal 2.2Ω switch. This flexibility enables the charger to support a wide range of voltage and current requirements.
This battery charger also includes an integrated linear charger timer and an input over-voltage protection circuit. The timer consists of a programmable adjustable current limitation and voltage rating, ensuring the entire battery charge process is monitored and controlled. The adjustable input over-voltage protection circuit prevents the system from being damaged by high input voltages.
The MAX1908ETI+T application field includes cellular telephones, digital cameras, and other handheld portables.
