The MAX336CAI+ is a dual single-pole/double throw (SPDT) analog multiplexer/demultiplexer Analog Switches designed with CMOS logic and silicon-gate technology. It is optimized for high performance in off-state resistance and very low switch capacitance. The multiplexer/demultiplexer is packaged in a variety of forms to suit specific application requirements. The standard packages are 5-leaded TO-220 integrated circuits (IC) and 6-leaded DIP.

As part of the MAX336 family, the MAX336CAI+ is used for multiplexing two analog signals such as video, audio, or process control inputs. Two different multiplexed signals can be digitized and stored, then reverted back to analog domain at different time. The MAX336CAI+ is ideal for applications such as data acquisition systems, instrumentation, medical analysis, and smart sensors where converting an analog signal to digital values is required.

The main purpose of an analog multiplexer/demultiplexer is to select one input channel of many and connect it to an output channel. The MAX336CAI+ can be used as an analog multiplexer, but can also be used to route analog signals. Digital control pins select which input to route to the output. By using these control pins, the output can be routed to different inputs with the Logic 1 state representing the "ON" state. With the aid of control pins, the output can be routed from one input to the digital ground with the Logic 0 state representing the "OFF" state. In addition, the MAX336CAI+ can be used as an analog demultiplexer by selecting one of the two outputs. For example, when the control pins are set to Logic 0, Output A is connected to the common input, and Output B is connected to logic ground.

The MAX336CAI+ also features very low switch capacitance and improved off-state resistance. This low switch capacitance reduces noise and decouples the switch from other system components, making it more suitable for high speed applications. In addition, the high off-state resistance preserves power and reduces the power supply current. This makes the MAX336CAI+ a great choice for low-power applications, such as battery-powered or portable devices.
