The MAX358EPE+ is a low power, single-supply, CMOS analog switch and multiplexer/demultiplexer family device. The MAX358EPE+ contains four independently selectable quantized switches, a 2:1 multiplexer, and a 1:2 demultiplexer all within a 16-pin Enhanced Plastic Quad Flatpack (EPQFP).

Applications for the MAX358EPE+ include power management, measurement instrumentation, signal conditioning, and communication systems. With its low voltage operation, the MAX358EPE+ can be used in battery-powered portable or low-voltage systems to decrease power consumption and increase battery life by reducing quiescent current consumption.

The MAX358EPE+ is composed of two individual analog switch and multiplexer/demultiplexer sections, each with two independently selectable switches. Each section contains two independently programmable switches that are controlled either by a single-ended control signal or a pair of low-power differential control signals. The switches operate off of single-ended or differential input signals, depending on the state of the VDDX pin.

The 2:1 multiplexer provides an output signal (OUT) that is selected from one of two inputs, AIN or BIN, depending on the logic state of SELECT. The multiplexer provides low switch-on resistance for on-off transitions and low drain current for low power consumption. The 1:2 demultiplexer provides the ability to switch one signal from AIN to either of two outputs, AOUT or BOUT, when the SELECT logic is asserted. The switches provide low-voltage digital control with minimal power loss. Additionally, the MAX358EPE+ is designed to have a low quiescent current to reduce power consumption.

The MAX358EPE+ features control pins on both sides of the device that can be used to control the switches and multiplexer/demultiplexer with either complementary logic or single ended logic. This gives the designer the flexibility to control the functions by utilizing different levels of logic signals. The MAX358EPE+ also features an enable pin which disables the outputs of the multiplexer/demultiplexer and the switches.

The MAX358EPE+ features enhanced features such as low on-resistance switch-on transitions, low cross-talk attenuation, and low switch-off leakage. Additionally, the MAX358EPE+ has an absolute maximum input voltage rating of 16V, which is ideal for use in highly capacitive loads. The MAX358EPE+ can also be used in a wide temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
