The PMH14,115 Array Pre-Biased Transistor is a 4-channel pre-biased transistor. This bipolar junction transistor (BJT) is designed to operate in the collecting (or emitter) current mode. It features a built-in current-limiting resistor that provides a bias current and reduce circuit complexity.
The device is constructed of a silicon epitaxial planar process and is available in both through-hole and surface mount packages. It can handle up to 220 Volts collector to emitter voltage and generates a 0.15A to 2A collector current. The collector-emitter saturation voltage is typically between 0.45 and 0.95V.
The PMH14,115 transistors are well-suited for use in high current, high voltage applications, such as motor control and drivers. The device operates by allowing a controllable current to flow through the four interconnected transistors simultaneously. This current flow is regulated by the value of the current-limitation resistor and voltage applied to the base of the device. The base voltage variations create an emitter current that is proportional to the amount of voltage applied to the base. The current will increase as the voltage on the base increases and will decrease as the voltage on the base decreases. This is how the PMH14,115 regulates the collector current.
In the event that the current demand exceeds the design limits of the device, the device will automatically adjust the current-limiting resistor to reduce the current. This in turn reduces the risk of current overload, providing an additional layer of thermal protection. Additionally, if an excessive collector-emitter saturation occurs, this will activate the thermal-foldback circuit, which will shut down the device.
