This causes electrons to be repelled from the source and towards the drain, creating an electron current in the channel with a resulting current flow from source to drain. The amount of current flow is directly proportional to the voltage applied to the gate. Thus, by controlling the voltage on the gate, the current flow can be controlled.

The RFP15N05L is used in both linear and switching applications, depending on the gate voltage. When the gate voltage is below the threshold voltage, the device operates in linear mode, providing a constant current flow between the source and the drain. When the gate voltage is above the threshold voltage, the device operates in switching mode, allowing the current to flow from source to drain only when the gate voltage is turned on. This allows for fast switching times and high efficiency.
