The case is filled with wet electrolyte, an acidic solution of water and sulfuric acid which serves as the medium between the capacitor element and the external electrodes. The capacitor element consists of two plates of aluminum foil, separated by a paper separator saturated with a wettable and non-conductive electrolyte. The external electrodes are made from tin plated copper wire, and the center electrode is a plated steel screw terminal. The TE1205-E3 capacitors have a temperature rating of 275°C along with an insulation voltage of 1500VAC and a rated voltage of up to 6500V.The working principle of the TE1205-E3 aluminum electrolytic capacitors is based on the electrochemical process. When an electric current is applied to the capacitor element, ions in the electrolyte react with the aluminum and form a thin oxide film on the aluminum surfaces. This oxide film is an insulator and prevents further reaction from taking place. When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, the oxide layer acts like a dielectric and causes the electric field to be distributed evenly across the aluminum plates.
