TL2844DR Application Field and Working Principle

Designing with the TL2844DR
In order to achieve maximum efficiency, the user should select components with the lowest possible RDS(ON) values. This will allow the TL2844DR to operate at a lower current, and it will reduce power dissipation on the output switch. The user should also consider the inductor and output capacitor size. The TL2844DR can work with both linear and switching output stages, and a higher switching frequency will reduce inductor size and components cost.
TL2844DR Working Principle
The TL2844DR works by providing a gate drive control voltage to the MOSFET switch. Its two on-time regulators are responsible for setting the low on-time and high on-time intervals. The low on-time is set by the RD pin and the high on-time is set by the GD pin. The RD and GD pins also determine the maximum switching frequency with higher values resulting in higher switching frequencies. The range of the low on-time and high on-time can be adjusted to fine-tune the loop stability, however, care must be taken to ensure the minimum gate drive current during the on-time interval is sufficient to activate the switch.
The TL2844DR features a high current gate driver to drive the MOSFET switch, integrated current limit and adjustable soft-start circuitry to reduce inrush current. The device also features a "low on" protection setting to limit the minimum on-time and a "high off" setting to limit the maximum off-time in order to avoid large current spikes. The output of the TL2844DR can be further modified with the addition of external components such as snubber circuitry.
