Working Principle

The TL2845DR device is designed to regulate an output voltage by switching on and off a power supply. It uses a fixed operating frequency PWM control and is suitable for push-pull, forward or flyback configurations. It has dual N-channel power MOSFETs and can operate in either step-down (buck) or step-up (boost) configuration.In a buck configuration, the load at the output is supplied with power from the input voltage source through a power switch (internal power MOSFET). When the power switch is turned on, current flows from the input source to the output. When the power switch is turned off, the current path is blocked. The current path and power switch is constructed in such a way that the output voltage is regulated within the predetermined regulation band.In boost configuration, the load at the output is supplied with more power than the input voltage can provide, using an inductor. The TL2845DR turns on the power switch and an internal current source to charge up an inductor in the power loop circuit. Once the inductor is charged, the power switch is turned off and the inductor will supply current to the output while the current decays. As the current decays, the output voltage increases and is regulated within the predetermined regulation band.In addition, the device includes various protection features to protect the circuit from various conditions, such as input/output over-voltage and under-voltage protection, over-current limit and short circuit protection.
