The TOP209G-TL is a new generation of AC/DC offline switcher integrated circuit integrating a 500V avalanche rugged SenseFET with a UVLO supply and a 500V avalanche rugged SenseFET with a UVLO supply offering over voltage, over current and over temperature protection. It is designed to provide a simple, low component count, high performance and reliable AC/DC offline switcher solution with a wide range of AC/DC converter applications. The Peak current mode synchronous rectification with SenseFET switching provides optimal performance and efficiency, while the high-12V supply ensures a wide operating range. Additionally, it has an adjustable over current protection and an adjustable over voltage protection using the current sense resistor.

Application Field

The TOP209G-TL is ideal for AC/DC converters used in LED lighting, household appliances and industrial/automotive applications, or as a step down (buck) or step up (boost) converter. Its various features allow it to be used for a wide range of applications, such as lighting systems, air conditioners, uninterruptible power supplies, battery chargers, industrial DC/DC converters, motor control systems, solar inverters and cellphone chargers. It is also ideal for general purpose AC/DC switching. Working Principle

The TOP209G-TL has a full range of protection features, such as an adjustable over voltage protection using the current sense resistor and an adjustable over current protection. This provides reliable protection against over current, over voltage and over temperature. When a fault condition is detected, the power switch is quickly turned off. The power switch is then re-enabled after a certain period of time to protect the system from damage.

The device supports Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) mode operation and operates with a minimum operating frequency of 50kHz. The PWM Control feature provides for optimized efficiency and system performance as well as a very fast transient response. The DC/DC output voltage can be adjusted in 0.1V increments for precision control. The device also supports a frequency jitter mode which can reduce peak EMI emission levels in order to meet the requirements of the latest EMI regulations.

The Peak current mode synchronous rectification with SenseFET switching provides optimal performance and efficiency. The SenseFET power switch reduces switching losses, while self-supplied soft start reduces input inrush current. The high-12V supply allows the device to be used in applications with a wide operating range, such as high-voltage DC/DC buck converter applications. The adjustable over voltage/over current protection ensures that the circuit shuts down quickly in the event of an overvoltage or overcurrent situation, while the adjustable soft start ensures that the system starts up smoothly.
