The TOP223G-TL, a hybrid off-line power supply control IC with integrated MOSFET, is designed to provide universal input and constant off-line output over a wide range of system conditions. This IC is suitable for use in a wide variety of offline AC-DC and DC-DC conversion applications, from small external plug-in power supplies to large 277VAC and 480VAC power supplies.

The TOP223G-TL provides high performance, with outputs up to 30 watts, and a wide range of protections, including over-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature protection. Its advanced architecture also provides improved power efficiency, reduced output ripple and noise, and very low startup current (<0.7mA).

This control IC integrates a power MOSFET with a low-cost off-line PWM controller and a VCC regulator. The PWM controller uses a constant off-line frequency (FO) topology with cycle-by-cycle current limit and programmable peak current protection. The VCC regulator of the TOP223G-TL circuitry can limit the peak switching current of the power MOSFET, protect it from over-current, reduce EMI/RFI noise, and improve efficiency.

The TOP223G-TL can be used for a range of applications, including offline AC-DC and DC-DC converters; low-power embedded application, such as battery-powered equipment, cameras and consumer electronics; toys, appliances and lighting; automotive power; and many other applications.

The TOP223G-TL offers excellent input regulation, output regulation, and protection features such as cycle-by-cycle peak current limit and over-voltage protection. It also has a flexible control capability with a wide range of input power sources, including sinusoidal input and square-wave input. It is suitable for a wide range of input voltages, from less than 8V to greater than 400V.

In addition, the TOP223G-TL has a detection network that monitors the voltage level of the output. If the sense voltage is greater than the threshold, the power transistor will be disabled. It also supports soft-start and current limit functions, to reduce inrush current and supply system power only when needed.
