UCC3626PWTR Application Field and Working Principle

The UCC3626 PWTR is a highly integrated integrated power stage controller with sub microsecond current sensing capabilities. It is highly suitable for providing fast current-sensing based over-current protection (OCP) to the high power stages of many power management applications such as voltage regulators, motor drives and H bridge stages. The UCC3626 PWTR is part of Texas Instruments’ comprehensive portfolio of highly-integrated motor/ load controllers and gate drivers, including the UCC3627-Q1, UCC36271 and UCC5308.

This includes applications like high power converters, IMOCs and H-bridge stages in DC-DC power supplies and motor drives. Working Principle

The UCC3626 PWTR builds on Texas Instruments’ expertise in precision power control. Its primary function is to quickly sense and limit an over-current event when the current reaches a specified level. This is achieved using the proprietary Current Sense Multiplexer (CSM) technology to rapidly select and divert the motor/load current from its source – a high power converter such as an IMOC. The power diverted is then read by the OCP controller. An OCP interrupt signal is then sent to the host controller to initiate the safe shutdown procedure.

In addition to OCP, the UCC3626 PWTR also supports other motor/load control functions such as Motor Braking, Reversing, Speed Control and Position Monitoring. This is implemented by a wide range of digital and analog control signals, making the device well-suited for high-performance motor/load control applications.
