The UCC3809D-2G4 is a highly integrated, bipolar, quasi-resonant, flyback switching regulator controller that works with low power AC/DC converters. It is powered by an internal microcontroller that provides a cost-effective solution for use in home electric appliances and other power tools. It is also used as an offline switcher for high efficiency and small form factor applications.This switching regulator controller is designed to provide high power conversion efficiency in an economical switching frequency range with its excellent performance parameters. It has integrated temperature protection, under-voltage protection, over-voltage regulation, and over-current protection. This controller is designed to work with a synchronous rectifier, providing high efficiency in both forward and reverse mode operations.The UCC3809D-2G4 is an ideal choice for offline switching applications such as LED lighting, charger and adapter systems, as well as for any energy saving appliance. It is easy to design a flyback converter with low losses in the range of 1W to 8W and very low standby power.In terms of its working principle, the UCC3809D-2G4 is divided into two main parts; the main block and the energy feedback block. The main block includes the oscillator and PWM switching circuitry, which is used to generate the pulse waveform required for the power conversion. The energy feedback block consists of a peak current and peak voltage detector which receive signals from the primary winding with two diodes and a capacitor connected in parallel.The peak current detector precisely senses the maximum current, while the peak voltage detector senses maximum voltage and keeps the output voltage ripple free. The output voltage is regulated by comparing the voltage and current signals to the reference voltage. The reference voltage is set by an external resistor, which controls the voltage output. Another important part of the UCC3809D-2G4 is the protection and safety circuit. This layer provides constant over-current and over-voltage protection, temperature protection and under-voltage protection.
