UCC3889DG4 Working Principle
The UCC3889DG4 IC is a constant frequency interleaved operation half-bridge converter. This type of converter consists of two separate power conversion circuits, called channels. Each channel operates as a half-bridge converter, with its own MOSFETs (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors), transformer and controlled rectifiers. The two channels are synchronized, which adds the second harmonic to the switching frequency, and thus reduces the transformer magnetic core size.The two half-bridges are connected in parallel, with their outputs connected together. The data line CLK input is used to synchronize the two outputs. This reduces the peak current that each half-bridge has to supply, greatly reducing the size of the output components, including the transformer, capacitors and inductors.The UCC3889DG4 also includes a Fault Detect circuit, with its output (FAULT) indicating the status of the circuit. It is used to detect over-temperature or over-current faults, and provides an output signal to indicate if faults are present.The UCC3889DG4 is designed to operate with a primary control current level of 40mA, and is adjustable to 160mA.
