2. Working Principle
The VIPER16LDTR is an ultra-low dropout (ULDO) regulator which built with an advanced proprietary BiCMOS process. The device integrates a full high-speed error amplifier and a high-current 2.0A auto-transistors in a tiny SOT-23-5 package. The high and stable operating current provides excellent voltage regulation. The dropout voltage of this device is typically 0.25V. The wide input voltage range of 3V to 28V makes it suitable for a variety of applications.
The device operates by monitoring the output voltage through an appropriate reference voltage. When the output voltage is below the set level, the regulator switches the pass transistor on and thus output voltage is starched until the regulated voltage is reached. The device also employs peak current limiting circuit which is designed to protect the pass transistor from excessive current.
The device also employs a wide choice of protection features such as OVP, thermal shutdown, sleep mode, fast turn-off and reverse current protection. Further, a separate disable charge pump output is provided here to turn off the pass transistor under high-current load conditions.
