VIPER20ASP-E, a performance-enhanced monolithic synchronous buck regulator IC, is designed to provide a cost-effective power solution for high-performance systems. This device integrates a high-side MOSFET and a high-efficiency synchronous rectifier, and it offers low no-load losses and adjustable switching frequencies up to 2 MHz. It also has enhanced transient response capability with a wide range-voltage input and output enabling high flexibility for system design.
VIPER20ASP-E is a member of ST’s family of PMIC - AC DC converters, offline switchers. This IC has a high efficiency of up to 95%, resulting in reduced thermal dissipation and enabling higher output current from the same board size. It also features input voltage monitoring, over-temperature protection (OTP) as well as over-current protection (OCP). It also has a low-drop-out mode of operation during light loads, enabling a high efficiency over a wide range of load conditions.
VIPER20ASP-E incorporates a sophisticated digital control system that allows fast and accurate transient response, with a large range of output capability. It also has adjustable output voltage and current setting. The digital control system offers low external component count, minimum required bypass capacitors and digital power programming, resulting in an overall cost reduction. The ACDC converter also offers a low profile, enabling compact systems.
VIPER20ASP-E’s working principle relies on an optimized synchronous switching topology. This topology enables high efficiency along with superb transient response capability. The device features an integrated high-side MOSFET and synchronous rectifier. This enables a high efficiency of up to 95%. It is also equipped with a low drop-out regulator, protecting against over voltage, over current, and over temperature, ensuring a safe and reliable operation.
The device operates at input voltages of 6.5V - 13.2V and over current protection of up to 6A. The output voltage ranges from 0.7V to 5.5V and the switching frequency can be programmed to 2 MHz. The VIPER20ASP-E has a digital monitoring circuit, enabling continuous monitoring of the output voltage, input voltage and temperature, making it suitable for a range of applications.
