VIPER53EDIP-E application field and working principleVIPER53EDIP-E is an off-line switcher designed for the PMIC- AC/DC converters. It is equipped with the integrated voltage switch (VSI) type controller along with other discrete components. The way these components work together creates a highly efficient, low power system with an ultra-fast transient response and a high level of immunity to EMI and RFI noise.
The VIPER53EDIP-E is used in a variety of applications including power control in AC/DC adapter systems, battery chargers, DC/DC converters, automotive systems, industrial equipment and medical applications. By optimizing the controller architecture, the VIPER53EDIP-E can provide high-performance conversion, fast transient response, minimal power dissipation and enhanced EMI/RFI immunity.
Working PrincipleAt the heart of the VIPER53EDIP-E is the integrated voltage switch (VSI) type controller. This controller is designed to regulate the voltage and current output from the supply before it reach the final load. This allows for the precise voltage and current regulation needed for high performance, low power and ultra-fast transient response. The VSI type controller makes use of five main components for operation: the output power FET, the drain bootstrap, the ZVS driver, the oscillator and the regulator.
The output power FET is turned on and off to regulate the output voltage and current. The drain bootstrap supplies the gate voltage to the output power FET while it is off and regulates the drain conduction time while it is on. The ZVS driver is responsible for the smooth switching of the power FET, reducing losses and voltage ringing. The oscillator sets the switching frequency, while the regulator adjusts the internal bias voltage.
The VIPER53EDIP-E also incorporates a high-performance voltage regulator that is capable of controlling both current and voltage. It provides the current limit and output voltage accuracy needed in many AC/DC converter applications. The VIPER53EDIP-E also includes a sense resistor to monitor the total load current and the output voltage, enabling highly accurate regulation of the output voltage and current.
In addition to the core elements, the VIPER53EDIP-E also includes several protection features, including over-voltage protection (OVP) and under voltage protection (UVP). These features protect the device from shorts, overloads and other faults that may occur in the power system. Additionally, there is an internal over temperature protection (OTP) to monitor the junction temperature of the switching device and the buck converter. The VIPER53EDIP-E also includes a power on reset (POR) and an open/short loop detection (OSD) for further safety of the system.
The combination of these components allows the VIPER53EDIP-E to provide a high-performance solution for PMIC AC/DC converters, with ultra-fast transient response, high efficiency, low power consumption and improved immunity to EMI and RFI noise.
