25LC040AT-E/SN is an electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) device. It has a total of 1,024 bits of memory organized into 64 bytes of 8-bit data each. It is a low-power, high-performance memory device that is ideal for applications needing nonvolatility and fast data access.

The 25LC040AT-E/SN is an 8-pin memory device that is available in both surface mount (SOP) and through-hole packages. Working Principle of 25LC040AT-E/SN

Internally the 25LC040AT-E/SN is a serial-access ROM (SRAM) with 8-bit words (bytes) of data. It has a total of 1,024 bits of memory organized into 64 bytes of 8-bit data each. The chip select (CS), serial clock (SCK), master output/slave input (MOSI), and master input/slave output (MISO) pins control the communication to and from the device. The MISO pin is an open-drain output.

The 25LC040AT-E/SN utilizes SPI protocol, the simplest serial communication protocol. It allows two or more devices to exchange data simultaneously without regard to the slave or master device. The master device initiates the transfer of data and controls the clock rate. It also provides the address, command and data bits used by the slave device.

The 25LC040AT-E/SN supports the following instructions: READ, WRITE, WRITE- DISABLE, WRITE-ENABLE, SECTOR-ERASE and CHIP-ERASE. The READ instruction allows the user to read data from the current address location. The WRITE instruction allows the user to overwrite data at the current address location. The WRITE-DISABLE and WRITE-ENABLE instructions are used to enable or disable the erasing of data. The SECTOR-ERASE and CHIP-ERASE instructions are used to erase data from a single sector or the entire memory.

The 25LC040AT-E/SN also supports an automatic write-protection scheme. It has two separate write-protect bits that can be set in ROM thus allowing the user to protect individual chip or sector memories from accidental writes. On-chip data retention is achieved by using a built-in charge pump to keep the write-protection bits enabled even in the absence of power.
