Thyristors – SCRs or Silicon Controlled Rectifiers, are four layer semi-conductor devices which can handle large amounts of power with simple circuit configurations. The 2N5064 is a type of SCR which is useful for AC switching and phase control applications.

Application Field - 2N5064

The 2N5064 SCR can be used in various AC switching and phase control applications in industrial and domestic settings. Working Principle of the 2N5064

The 2N5064 is a four layer semiconductor device which consists of a Gate, Main Anode, Cathode, and Main Cathode. The Main Anode and Main Cathode are the main conducting elements while the Gate and Cathode act as control elements. When a positive voltage is applied to the Gate of the SCR, it triggers a flow of current between the Main Anode and Main Cathode. This current flow will remain until the voltage supply to the Gate is removed; which allows the 2N5064 to be used for controlling high power applications.

The SCR also contains a number of other components, such as a current limiter and a reverse voltage limiter, which can help to protect the device from power spikes or high current flows. The 2N5064 also contains a temperature sensing element which helps to protect the device from overheating.
