The 2N5092 is a bipolar junction transistor (BJT) designed and manufactured by Motorola\'s Semiconductor Devices Division. It is intended for general-purpose low-power switching and amplifying applications. The 2N5092 is a silicon epitaxial-base NPN transistor in a small outline package (SOT-23). The 2N5092 has an operating temperature range from -65 to +175°C.

The 2N5092 uses the bipolar junction transistor working principle. The bipolar junction transistor is essentially three layers of semiconductor material, the base, the collector and the emitter, which form a sandwich structure between two n-type and one p-type material. Current flows from the emitter to the collector through the base. The current gain of the transistor is controlled by the ratio of the current passing through the emitter to base junction and the current passing through the collector to base junction.
