AO4701 is a Single P-Channel Enhancement Mode MOSFET that is designed to deliver performance and reliability. This metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) is a unipolar transistor commonly used in both analog and digital circuits. At the most fundamental level, a MOSFET is an electronic switch that enables current to flow in one direction or the other. In the case of the AO4701, it is a P-Channel MOSFET, which means that when the Gate is supplied with a positive voltage, the source to drain current will flow in one direction. Conversely, when the Gate voltage is pulled to a negative voltage, the source to drain current will be inhibited. This “on/off” behaviour of a P-Channel MOSFET makes it ideal for use as a switch in digital circuits.
The AO4701 works by controlling the flow of current between its source and drain terminals. It has three terminals, the Gate, Source and Drain. The Gate terminal is used to control the Source to Drain current as explained above. The Source terminal is the entry point of the current and the Drain terminal is its exit point. When a positive voltage is applied to the Gate, it creates an electric field that forces electrons across the thin layer of insulating silicon dioxide (SiO2) separating the Gate from the Source, allowing current to flow. Conversely, when a negative voltage is applied, the electric field is reversed, inhibiting the flow of current.
The AO4701 has a low Gate Threshold Voltage of 2.5 Volts, making it ideal for use in low voltage application. Its fast switching speed and low On-Resistance make it suitable for use in many power management applications. Its small package size makes it ideal for use in space-constrained applications.
