An AO7408 is a single enhancement-mode MOSFET (metal-oxide semiconductor field effect transistor) designed for use in a variety of power management and signal switching applications. This device can serve as a voltage-controlled single-pole, single-throw (SPST) switch, providing simple, low cost on/off control for signal and power circuits. Applications vary from digital logic switching and amplification to DC, AC and pulse power control.

The AO7408 has a maximum drain current of 85 mA and a maximum drain-source voltage of 30 V. This device has an output resistance, or RDS(ON), of 0.05 ohms at VGS=10V, meaning that it can be used in several high power switching applications such as low-voltage DC motor and illumination control.

Working principle of the AO7408 switch is simple: an external voltage is applied to the gate input, which generates an electric field in the semiconductor channel. Thus, the voltage at the drain terminal controls the channel current. This current-carrying channel has a much lower impedance than the gate-source junction. At sufficient gate-source voltage, the channel current increases and a drain-source voltage drop results.

The AO7408 is well suited for small-signal analog, RF and mixed-signal applications, and is used in such areas as switching power supply, LCD backlight and DC motor control. It can be used in high-fidelity audio equipment, liquid crystal display panels and industrial remote controls.
