The CY7C65100-SC is a member of Cypress Semiconductor Corporation\'s low voltage, low power SPI SRAM family designed for applications traditionally served by lower speed, parallel SRAMs. It is part of the "Staggered I/Os" family with five volt tolerant I/Os that are internal voltage regulated down to sign all five volt tolerant I/Os and other low voltage I/O standards. Low active power consumption of 1.3 mA and low standby power consumption of 0.8 mA at 1.8V supply voltage make this ideal for the various sizes of mobile phones and points-of-sale (PoS) applications.

The CY7C65100-SC is a high-performance static RAM (SRAM) containing 32,768 words of 8 bits organized as 4,096 x 8-bit memory array. It is packaged in a 20-lead thin plastic small outline package (TSSOP). It is nonvolatile which can retain contents when supply voltage is not applied. It is RoHS compliant and available in the commercial, industrial and extended temperature grades(-40°C to +85°C).

Application Field:This device is best suited for consumer applications such as digital cameras, handheld/portable devices and printers. Its low power modes and wide voltage range make it suitable for use in battery operated systems and it also works well in point-of-sale (POS) terminals, PC-based peripherals, audio and video applications, NTSC gaming and other consumer electronics applications.

Working Principle:The CY7C65100-SC is a static RAM, meaning it does not need to be periodically refreshed like dynamic RAM (DRAM). It uses an 8-bit data bus for communication. Read operations are performed by placing the 8-bit memory address onto the address bus, controlling the chip select and running a logic ‘1’ to the read strobe. The data appears at the output of the chip in 8-bit form following the read strobe. It is possible to write individual bytes of data to memory when running a logic ‘1’ to the write strobe.

The device also has optional 3-wire serial SPI interface. This interface can be used to access the device\'s full internal address range. Serial read or write operations are performed by clocking in the required data bits serially on serial pin TMOSI at the input. It requires Chip select CS, serial clock SCK and serial data in/out TMISI/TMOSI signals to perform serial read & write operations.

The CY7C65100-SC has three low power modes for further reduction of operating power. These modes are accessed by a single instruction. When the device is not actively being used, it can be placed in Standby mode, reducing power consumption to 0.8uA while any contents still remain in memory. If longer durations of inactivity are required, Active power down mode can be used to reduce power to only 0.1uA. Both of these modes require no cycle time, allowing wake-up and full access within a single cycle. After wake-up, the device can either be placed back into Standby or directly back into Active mode.

Overall, the CY7C65100-SC is an ideal solution for a wide range of application fields due to its low power consumption, wide voltage ranges and support for multiple memory modes. Its low voltage inputs are compatible with both 5V and 3.3V systems and its low power modes allow for optimized power management in battery powered systems.
