Working Principle

The IDT7204L20SO8 FIFO memory operates on the principle of “First in, First out” (FIFO). This means that the data that entered first is the first one to be read out. The FIFO memory is composed of two memory blocks. The first one is the write memory block and the second one is the read memory block. The write memory block is used to store the data that is to be written and the read memory block is used to read the data that has been written.

The data is transferred between the two memory blocks using two pointers. The write pointer is used to maintain the address of the last data written and the read pointer is used to maintain the address of the last data read. The write pointer is incremented each time a write operation is performed and the read pointer is incremented each time a read operation is performed. If the read pointer is ahead of the write pointer, the FIFO memory is considered as empty.
