ISL6113IRZA is a hot swap controller. It is designed to allow power on/off switching to a high-current main supply in a hot-pluggable system. It provides a variety of features to protect sensitive loads and prevent catastrophic damage to the system. ISL6113IRZA is powered by a single supply between 6V and 20V. ISL6113IRZA uses a unique circuit topology to provide a range of features for optimized current sharing and inrush control at the system level. It uses a bi-directional current-mode control loop to provide precise current sharing between multiple supplies connected in parallel.
ISL6113IRZA can simultaneously control up to six n-channel MOSFETs and one p-channel MOSFET to form an either open-drain or totem-pole drive. These features provide protection from short-circuit conditions and limit the amount of overcurrent before the supplies are protected from damage. The on-die MOSFET gate drivers provide faster turn-on and turn-off of the external power MOSFETs and also provide additional fault protection. These gate drivers are fully protected against any conditons that might normally cause a latch-up event.
ISL6113IRZA supports two modes of operation - hot swap and power good. In hot swap mode, the device maintains a tight control over voltage levels and current flow, while the system is being switched on and off in a controlled manner. The power good mode is used to indicate when the system is ready to operate and is also used to monitor the system power and regulation. ISL6113IRZA is designed to provide high accuracy, robust control and low power dissipation, even under worst-case operating conditions such as minimum supply voltage and fast transients.
To protect against overvoltage and inrush current, ISL6113IRZA provides adjustable soft-start, adjustable over-current, adjustable over-voltage, adjustable hot-plug delay, power-on LED driver and over-temperature protection. It also features a patented offset generator circuit which allows for the detection of a small voltage change. This provides protection from high-inrush current and over-voltage conditions. The protection options for the ISL6113IRZA are easy to configure, allowing users to select their desired protection levels to suit their specific application.
The ISL6113IRZA is small in size, making it ideal for space-constrained systems. It can be used in a variety of applications, such as in server and storage rack solutions, data centers, distributed power systems, cloud computing systems and in other multiple-output systems.
